Laparoscopic Surgery

At Bridge Street Veterinary Hospital, we are proud to offer laparoscopic spay procedures performed by our surgeon, Dr. Paul Hodges.

Laparoscopic surgery is performed with the assistance of a fiber-optic camera (laparoscope) inserted through a small opening in the abdominal wall. This instrument allows our surgeon to view the abdominal organs on an external video monitor and perform surgical procedures without the need for opening large entry points into the body. Tiny and precise incisions are made to release the ovaries and uterus from their supporting ligaments, and blood vessels are cauterized.

Laparoscopic surgery considerably reduces pain and lessens the risk for infection because the incision is so small. This means shorter recovery time and less medications for your pet! Additionally, the camera provides our surgeon with the ability to view nearby organs and structures, allowing for the opportunity to address additional concerns should they arise.

We also offer procedures such as gastropexy and cryptorchid neuters through laparoscopic techniques.

Please note that our surgeon is in high demand, therefore we are booking 2-3 months in advance.
