Surgical Services

Our veterinarians provide many surgical services at our clinic, ranging from routine to advanced procedures. Because we want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally refer them to specialists (board-certified veterinary surgeons) to perform complex operations when advanced equipment or training will be beneficial. Our veterinary team will take precautions to ensure that your pet receives a safe anesthetic. We perform a physical exam and preanesthetic testing before surgery, monitor your pet during surgery, and provide pain medication during recovery.

Pain Relief Center

No caring pet owner ever wants to see their animal companion in pain, but it’s something that happens more frequently than you may realize. Maybe it’s pain that is caused as a result of an injury or following a surgical procedure. Perhaps your pet suffers from a painful, chronic medical condition, such as arthritis or hip dysplasia. Whatever the reason, it’s our job – as animal caregivers and veterinary professionals – to do everything within our power to help relieve that pain and provide a more comfortable existence for our cherished companions.

At Bridge Street Veterinary Hospital we take a particular interest in finding ways to manage our patients’ pain most effectively. We utilize a wide variety of methods to control, reduce and eliminate pain, whether it’s acute or chronic. These methods may include one or more of the following recommendations:

  • Oral Medications
  • Topical Pain Relief Products
  • Supplements
  • Steroid Injections
  • Laser Therapy

Whether your pet is in the process of recovering from a recent medical procedure, is in rehabilitation for an injury or is just experiencing pain in general, don’t wait another moment. We will perform a thorough exam and evaluation of your companion to identify the cause and develop the appropriate course of treatment. Let us help your pet live a more comfortable, pain-free life.

Surgical Procedures

When a loved one needs surgery – regardless of whether they are of the human or animal species – it can be a stressful time filled with anxiety and uncertainty. You want to be sure that your companion will receive the best possible care and will be kept as safe and comfortable as possible throughout the process. At BSVH, we understand the many questions and concerns you have regarding your pet’s surgery, and we want to place your mind at ease. Our goal is to make each and every surgical procedure we perform, whether routine or complex, as stress-free an experience as possible.

We offer a full range of surgical services, all performed to the highest standards of safety and care. Rest assured that when it comes to surgery, your cherished friend will be in excellent hands with us! From the moment you drop your pet off the morning of surgery, until you come to pick them up to begin their recovery at home, we’ll take every measure possible to ensure their well-being at all times while in our care.

Prior to any surgical procedure, your pet will first be evaluated to ensure that he or she is healthy enough to proceed. We also strongly recommend pre surgical blood work, as this helps us to identify any potential added risk factors that your pet may be subject to so that we can account for those risks as we move forward with the surgical process. The more prepared we are ahead of time, the more smoothly the procedure will go.

Next we’ll develop a customized pain management plan for your pet based on his or her unique health profile. Our goal is to keep your companion as comfortable as possible while always accounting for their safety throughout the entire process. BSVH uses only the safest, most effective anesthetic product, which is carefully administered under the close watch of our highly skilled veterinary technicians.

Once your pet is safely sedated, the doctor will proceed with the operation, working as diligently and efficiently as possible. Throughout the procedure, our caring, qualified support team will be on hand to assist with surgery and to monitor your pet to ensure that their vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels, remain right where they should be at all times.

When surgery is complete, we will move your pet to our recovery area where we will continue to monitor them closely as they begin to come out of anesthesia. Someone from our team will reach out to you to explain how the procedure went, discuss any important findings and arrange a pick up time. When you arrive, we’ll go over our aftercare instructions, which may also include a pain management plan to help make your pet’s recovery at home more comfortable.

Specialist Referrals

Because we want to ensure that our patients always receive the best possible outcome, we will occasionally make referrals to specialists (board-certified veterinary surgeons) to perform complex operations when we feel that advanced equipment or training will be beneficial. We will present our recommendations and welcome a discussion with you to help you make the best decisions for you and your pet.

If your animal companion needs surgery, there’s no need to panic. Especially when you have the team at Bridge Street Veterinary Hospital on your side! We’ll have your pet fixed up and on the road to a full and speedy recovery in no time!
